First Frost Sampler

I realized I never shared all the details of my First Frost Sampler with you.  Let's take a look at it today and then we can get back to Fall and Christmas cards and projects.  Enjoy!

I added Brusho and inks over the embossed 'tile' to add lots of subtle color and texture.

For making 'sprigs' of odds and ends of shapes and colors, just look through your collection of dies and framelits and you'll be sure to find some you can use. 

Have you tried making a sampler yet?  It's lots of fun!  It's kind of like making up your own puzzle.

For added inspiration, just look through our catalog or through your stash of stamps and dies ... choose your color story ... and let the fun begin!

Gear Up! Our Tin Tile TIEF is Amazing!

If someone told me I could only keep one TIEF (Textured Impressions Embossing Folder) in my studio, I would (after the shock wore off) choose the Tin Tile TIEF - hands down.  It is amazing.  I've used it for so many things, including cards and projects, as well as working with Brusho, Foils and Shimmer Paints.  I have a lot to share with you today, so let's get started.  Enjoy!

In this photo, I've used the Tin Tile TIEF to emboss some of our foil CS.  It looks good in every color!

In the photo below, I embossed Galvanized Metal CS and 'painted' it with Copper Shimmer Paint.  I was out of copper foil at the time and came up with this for my 'Plan B' to complete my project.  By sanding it a bit (later), I was able to give it a look of aged copper.

Below, I 'painted' this Thick White CS with Silver Shimmer Paint.

Below is a project I made with the foil and the Galvanized Metallic CS when it first came out.  We made this at our Scraps and Prayers class.  I love it and still use it to decorate in the Fall.

And now, here's my 'Geared Up' card.  I love the classic cars of the fifties!

I actually used Black Brusho over the embossed CS for this card and then used 'direct to paper' to add silver ink over this piece.

Gears ... tire tracks ... how fun!

I added Wink of Stella highlights to my 57 Chevy, but they don't show up in the photo.  When my family moved to the East Coast when I was going into 8th grade, we made the trip in a Dusk Pearl 57 Chevy Station Wagon.  Oh the memories we had in that fun car.

Aren't the little embellishments just stinkin' cute!

Country Home / Tin Tile Card

Today's card is another card just for the beautiful Fall season.  The weather here lately has been having a lot of fun with us.  You can dress like Fall in the morning, but the temperatures send you back to your closet for cooler attire as the afternoons heat up.  I just got some new clothes a few days ago, so I'm ready for cooler weather so I can enjoy my new duds.  After losing 35 pounds, it was fun to shop for smaller sizes.  My daughter took me to a new little boutique shop right downtown that has the cutest clothes ever.  It opened a little over a year ago, but I hadn't gotten to go anywhere for so long that I'd never been there.  After going through my many health issues of the past year, it was such a joy to get to go on an outing with her.  I will certainly be going back.

So, I hope you liked today's card and will come back for more inspirational ideas.  Now, go enjoy the beautiful day ... and ... maybe ... stamp a bit.

Tin Tile Fall Decor Project

I've worked on this project for a long time and am so happy to share it with you today.  We'll be making this project (minus the frame) at our Sept. 17 (note - a week later than usual) Scraps and Prayers class.  (Mon., Sept.10 is the deadline to pay to register for this class.)  This project was inspired by the framed project on page 42 in our new Holiday Catalog.  The first time I saw it, I could hardly wait for my pre-order to arrive so I could make my version of it.  And here it is.

I knew I wanted to use an 8 X 8" square frame, with a shallow shadow box look to it.  I looked high and low and the only ones that I could find did not have removable glass.  This project needs to show all the texture and dimension to the layers and would never look the same behind glass.

My solution:  I bought an inexpensive frame with a metal backing that had a text painted on it.  I simply covered it with DSP (after a little painting) and built my project from there.  I had to add an extra piece of Galvanized Metallic Paper, as well as DSP, but I made it work.

The star of the entire project is the 'tin tile' layer.  It is created using our new Tin Tile Dynamic TIEF --- an absolutely amazing embossing folder.  I added layers of ink over it, to give a slightly distressed/aged look to it.  An interesting thing about this project is that it mixes a variety of metals together --- copper, tin, gold glimmer --- while still maintaining a rustic look.

I know you've heard me say it before, but this was one of my most favorite projects ever.
