Framed Ornament

I have another project for you today using more of our Red Foil Sheets.  This one is an ornament that I framed.
I die cut 10 ornaments, arranged them into 2 pretty layers and attached an Antique Brad at the center.
Here's a fun secret that you might not know.  This frame is intended to be for record collectors to display their collection of 45's.  It even has a hole in the center which I used to place my brad!  I was walking through the frame department of our hobby store one day and discovered these great frames.
I already have another project in mind for our Scraps and Prayers group for April using one of these frames.  I can't wait to get started on mine, but it will have to wait until after Christmas.

Awesomely Artistic in Soft Sky

I wanted to create a card with a gorgeous new stamp set and I wanted to created something soft and beautiful, with a vintage look.  So, I reached for Awesomely Artistic and some Soft Sky CS, along with my gold EP and some Antique Brads.  I love the result.
I stamped and stamped off (for a lighter shade) with Pear Pizzazz and Soft Sky inks, embossed the focal piece with gold and added extra wings to the embossed dragonfly.  He is embossed and then the wings are curled up, for added dimension.
For the little piece over the ribbons, I stamped the leafy image and then added an Antique Brad.  I doubled the ribbons, with a thin one over the wider ribbon and wrapped them around the top layer of the card.  This layer is up on dimensionals.
I added just a little piece of paper lace doily peeking out from the die cut piece.  I like the look.  These are brand new framelits and I will be using them a lot.  There are 7 (layering) dies in the set!
I pronounce this card a success and am ready to make some more creations!

Tutorial for Floral Framelits Shape Card

In response to requests about my previously posted card, I have a little tutorial today to help you.  I hope you'll like reading it and then go create one of your own.  Enjoy!  Here's the card:
Here's how you cut the shaped card base.  Start with a folded piece of CS, just like you were going to make a top-fold card.  Hang 2 of the petals partly off the folded edge.  Cut another (single) piece of CS in the same floral shape.  Set this one aside for now.
Here's a close-up so you can better see how to do the folded edge.
Here's how it looks after you've run it through the Big Shot and cut it.
Now, you have a top-fold card in a floral shape.
Here's how it looks when you open it.
You could leave it like this, but I chose to take the single piece of CS that I cut and attach it over the folded card, so I would have complete petals on the entire card front.  I then cut the other layers, stamped and sponged them, and attached them with dimensionals.  I then added an Antique Brad.  I attached these 3 layers to the large card base with more dimensionals.  When we made this card in class, everyone loved it and was surprised at how easy it is to make it.  OK now; your turn to go make one:)

A Shape Card with Sponge Daubers

I hadn't made a shape card for a while, so I decided to work on one using our Floral Framelits.  These are some of my favorite dies, because you have a lot of versatility with them and they make wonderful filter paper flowers.  If you follow my blog, you know I've made a lot of those:)  I chose Strawberry Slush for this card.
I used a little stamping and a lot of sponging to give my card added dimension and texture.

For more creative ideas for using sponge daubers, click here.  This one uses a stencil with sponge daubers.  Enjoy!
I also used sponging to create a coordinating envelope.

More Details About my Butterflies Mixed Media Art Canvas

As promised in my last post, here are more details about my Butterflies canvas.  Again, I must say how much I enjoyed creating this project.
I've used several of our antique brads and metal buttons.  I snipped the prongs off the backs of the brads and hot glued them to the canvas.
I stacked one antique brad on top of a metal button.  After hot gluing it into place, I burnished it a bit with inks.
The pretty little shiny flakes that you see are bits of beautiful mica.  The smallest butterfly has pearls down the center.  I burnished them with inks, to give a more vintage look to them.
I've covered the canvas with bits of torn papers, lace, lots of layers of paints and inks and even did some stamping in random places.
There are 2 butterflies embedded in the canvas and then 2 are attached by just the middle, so their wings are very dimensional.  All the butterflies are die cut from our Brushed Gold CS, so they're quite sturdy.
All in all, a super fun .. and actually easy ... project.

Mixed Media Art Canvas with Butterflies

Here's the canvas we'll be making at my March 21 Mixed Media Art Canvas class.  I loved making this one!  I cannot begin to tell you how much I have enjoyed taking time to really get into working with Mixed Media Art.  I love it so much.  It is easy.  It is fun.  It is fulfilling my need to work in new creative ways as an artist.  And, yes, it may be addictive.  The only difficult thing about it is deciding that you need to stop and call the project finished.  I can't wait to start another canvas.

In my next post, I'll share more details about my canvas.

Some of My July Projects, Part 2

I'm home this morning, instead of at church, because my leg pain has prevented any meaningful sleep for about 3 days now.  I will think of stamping goodness and take my mind off from the pain.  Actually, it's better right now than it was all night, but I am a bit wiped out.

So, let's continue today with more of my projects that I've been making in July.  Today's post features shades of Coastal Cabana and Hello Honey with a couple of cute gift bags.

I cut off the edge of my Chevron bag to create a clean edge, folded it over, and tucked a folded doily (spritzed with Coastal Cabana reinker/alcohol mixture) beneath the flap.  I wrapped Baker's Twine around the folded over edge and tied a pretty bow.  The lucky recipient can just slip off the Baker's Twine to open it and not have to tear into the bag.
Are you wondering how I made the flower?  I kind of made it up as I went along:)  I punched about 6-8 layers of Crushed Curry, using our Blossom Flower Punch.  Then, I got out my new Fringe Scissors and, while constantly turning each flower around, I started cutting slits into it, cutting each punched flower 1 layer at a time.  Then, I stacked them all up, pierced a hole through the centers, and attached it all with a brad.  It starts looking cool when you fluff the daylights out of it.  Because the center shows a bit, I used one of our smaller Antique Brads in the center.  Wouldn't this make a great little gift for someone, with a treat or small something inside?
I used my Blendabilities to color the cotton ribbon, creating an ombre effect.  I spritzed the bag, using my reinker/alcohol (Coastal Cabana) mixture.  Wondering about that crazy little flower?  I punched 3 Coastal Cabana flowers with our Pansy Punch.  I folded each one and attached each flower, back to back with just a section of another flower, until all 3 were attached.  Once it dried (used Liquid Tombow to hold them together) I scrunched it a lot, opened it up, scrunched it a bit more, opened it up and 'arranged' it the way I wanted it to look.
... and here is your sneak peek for my next couple of posts where I'll continue to share more details on each project.

Friday Night Cards, A Sneak Peek

It's a beautiful, sunny day here.  I've already been out on the porch having a little photo shoot of some of my newest projects.  It's tricky doing photo shoots of projects outdoors because the weather has to be just right AND it can't be too windy.  Many times, I've nearly lost a card when a gust of wind came up just as I was ready to shoot.  Daylight makes for the best photos, so I endure.

Today, I want to share a sneak peek at what we'll be making at my Friday Night Cards class on August 9.  First up, is the bonus card.  For this class, you get to make 5 cards (for $15.) but, if you get a friend to sign up, too, you both get to make a bonus card.  Here it is!
This one is my favorite!
I love the crisp look of black, white and yellow together.  I stamped the envelope to look like it was taped shut.  I did some special techniques on this card that I will share at my class.  So, come on now.  Go get a friend and sign up for the class so you can both make this card.  While you're here, you can see my Spooky Banner in person and check out some of my other new displays.  At this time of year, you'll see a lot of exciting new projects on display for the upcoming holidays.  I love it!  Have a great day and a super weekend.  Don't forget to create something beautiful today.

Bonus Card Sneak Peek

Here is a peek at the bonus card for this Friday night.  How do you get to make a bonus card?  You and a friend pay to register by June 12 or 13 for the Friday night class and you EACH get to make the bonus card.  How cool is that?
My color story is Rose Red, Pear Pizzazz and Smoky Slate.  I find myself using this new stamp set quite a lot.  It's called Really Good Greetings and they really are just that.  Today's post is short and sweet as I'm on Nanna duty with all 3 kids today.  We have a busy day planned.

Fabric Flowers in a Window Box

Did you try to guess what my mystery object was in my last photo?  If you guessed that it was a part of something very old, you were on the right track.  It's actually a part of an old shutter.  I've had it for years and just love it.  Someone, a long time ago, took some pieces of old wood and attached a little window box to it.  I love when clever people make new things out of something old.  The shutter itself is old and peeling and the latch handle (the mystery object) is rusting and peeling.  I love that look!

I have hung this window box on my porch for several years and usually just stick a few sprigs of artificial flowers in it.  One year, the birds made a fine nest for their eggs and hatched some beautiful babies.  This year, after making so many fun wreaths with my fabric flowers, I had this brainstorm to fill my window box with fabric flowers!  I love, love, love how it turned out.

I cut and added blocks of styrofoam/floral foam (whatever that stuff is:) to fit the box.  Then, I layered artificial moss over it.  I actually lifted it up and added some hot glue in a couple of places.

After adding the brad through all the layers of the flower, I wrapped a floral wire (pieces cut to varying lengths) around the 'legs' of the brad and then twisted the ends together.  To be sure it stayed, I added a dollop of hot glue over the wire loop and the back of the brad.

I then arranged the flowers in the window box and set them out on my favorite old peely bench to enjoy.  I haven't decided if I will leave them on the bench or hang them on the back wall of the wrap-around porch.

This was a super fun project.  I hope you will take some time to look around your home ... and maybe your garage or attic ... and see if you have anything that you could use for a fabric flower project.  You can go antiquing and junking with a new purpose now, too.  Please leave a comment and let me know what you think of my project.
