Collage Frame with Project Life Cards

I finally realized that I've never shown you the collage frame that we made at my last Scraps and Prayers class.  I was having trouble getting any photos during our super hot and humid days.  I'd set up, as usual, on my front porch and my camera would fog up before I could even get the shot.
Here's what we made.  I used cards from the Project Life Everyday Adventure set, along with stamped pieces that were punched or die cut.  Using the Project Life cards makes this project super easy to complete.  I've kept mine pretty simple and basic, ready to add my photos.
I'll be sharing more about Project Life soon.

Collage Frame from a Simply Scrappin' Kit

I have another collage frame for you today.  I made this one from a Simply Scrappin' Kit that I had on hand.  What is the advantage of using a kit for a project like this?
  • instant coordination
  • a planned theme
  • a planned color story
  • adhesive backed pieces
  • card stock AND Designer Papers
  • fun, fun, fun
Does this hold back your creativity?  Not a bit.  If anything, it revs it up a bit.
I've left empty places to add photos and/or mementos later, as well as stamped images.  This one could easily be for several lucky people:
  • a teen
  • a little boy (could adapt for a girl, too)
  • a dad (could adapt for a mom, too)
  • a baby boy (or girl)

I'll bet you could think of other possibilities, as well.  I think I will complete this one with a dad theme.

Do you like it turned horizontally or vertically?

Frames with Fabric / Collage Frames

I've started some new collage frames and I tried something new for the background --- fabric!  As you know, I love making framed projects, especially collage frames.  I will post some fun projects over the next few posts, to share with you what I've been doing and how you can do it, too.

When I start a new frame, I always start with the background.  It may be one piece of DSP or several smaller pieces, using a different design in each section of the frame.  For this project, I decided to try fabric.
I've used one solid piece of fabric for my background, using our More Amore designer fabrics.  I've laid out the other patterns from this group, along with a couple from our Summer Smooches designer fabrics.  As with papers, laying out your patterns of fabric helps you think about what looks best together.

I do NOT have glass over my fabric, because I wanted the texture of the fabric to really show.  I actually ironed the fabric onto the glass!  In one of my next posts, I'll share with you how to do it.  It's really easy.

Here's another frame with the same fabric.
Now, my next step will be to add objects and/or photos to my frames.  I'll be sharing those another time --- very soon --- so be sure to come back to see.

Remember, I have my Third Thursday Class --- Collage Frames --- this week, so let me know if you'd like to join us.  The frames are included in the materials for the class, so it's a really good price.  We'll be using papers for our class projects and I'll have a variety available so you can choose what you like the best for your project.

Here are some of my other frames, so you can see the endless possibilities.

Here are some other framed projects my customers and I have made:

Would you like to try creating a framed project?  Here's how:
  • Choose a theme for your project.
  • Think about where/how you will use your project --- gift, home decor...
  • Choose a frame suitable for your project.  Frames with divided sections or divided mats work really well for collage frames.
  • Choose your colors --- fabric or papers.
  • Cover the background for your frame --- either all 1 piece or different pieces in each section.
  • Collect photos / special objects to add to your frame, keeping with your theme.
  • Look through your stamps and create images to add to your project.
  • Choose some embellishments to compliment your project.
  • Step back and look at your project.
  • Decide if you think it needs something else to add to it.
  • When you think you're finished, step back and admire.
  • Give it to someone special, hang it on your wall, or set it on your mantel for all to enjoy.
Before I go, I'd like to share a few beautiful photos of my sweet Olive Jane.  Imagine creating a collage frame of winter photos and using photos something like these in your frame.

Think about it.  The photos plan your theme for you.  Her cute little coat sets the color scheme. Now, find a few more photos, depending on the size of your frame, stamp some winter images, add some embellishments (Snowflakes out of silver glimmer paper would be nice.) and you're on your way to a beautiful collage frame of a beautiful little child.  When you think of it like this, your collage frame is really a 3-D scrapbook page.

Now, go try one.  You'll love it!

Collage Frames

I have some fun classes coming up for you.  My goal is to try to post a little sneak peek / preview for each class ahead of time, so you can get an idea as to what we'll be doing.  For now, here's an example of one of my COLLAGE FRAMES.  It's a super favorite of mine.  We'll be making collage frames twice this year --- once in February and once in August, with different themes each time.
I wanted this collage frame to have a vintage look, to go with the photos and embellishments that I used.  I have pins from my father and great grandfather,  various buttons, a chipboard heart, and the original key and house numbers from my daddy's home in Iowa.  I also used Scrabble tiles (Hunt for these at garage sales.) to spell out 'family.'
The rosette die lends itself to creating beautiful embellishments for projects like this one, as well as the butterflies die.  I embossed the wings on my butterfly, to give it a special texture.

If you plan to participate in one of both of these collage frames classes, I'd suggest that you start looking around now for unique embellishments that you'd like to add to your project.  Look around your home and scrounge around antique stores.  You'll be surprised at what you find and how much fun you have during 'the hunt' for them.
This is a collage frame that I made for my daughter-in-law for Christmas.  I had really good subject matter for this one:)  Notice how different a look you can get when you totally change the color scheme.  I printed all the photos in black and white, so that I could use a color scheme that would go with all of them.  This is a good tip to remember for scrapbooking, too.

Collage Frames: Saturday Morning Brunch Bunch

Here's a peek at some of the frames we made in my Collage Frames Class.  They are going to take them home and add a few more things, including photos, and then they'll bring them back to share with everyone.  I forgot to take photos of the Monday Morning Brunch Class --- sorry everyone --- but they all chose to make the banners.  I'll try to get some photos of those later.
These are from the Saturday Morning Brunch Bunch.  I love how the projects evolved as we worked on them!!!

This frame uses the beautiful neutrals from the Mocha Morning DSP.  Look how she used a favorite old 'find' of a pin for the center of one of the butterflies!  I would not have thought of trying that.  One of the great things about working with groups is that we all come with creative ideas and can easily inspire each other.
This project was done with Well Worn DSP and some of the newsprint.  I had to get out a few old stamps from my 'stash' to fit her theme.  We've embossed them to add to the texture.
The fishing theme frame will be for her husband.  The 'W' theme frame will be for her home.

Lots of layering really adds a lot to the projects.
See how some of the text and letters were cleverly used to create personal parts of the frame?  I love it!
More later.  Aaron and I are working hard to get our asthma under control.  This is a difficult Spring for us, as far as the asthma goes.  I still love that we do have warm weather, though.  I have never been a fan of winter cold.  About one good snow is plenty for me:)

Here again is the frame I just finished for my studio, along with some close-ups.  This uses the new Sale-A-Bration papers --- Everyday Enchantment.  I've also used the coordinating ribbons and brads.  The stamp sets are:
Word Play, Letter It and Outlined Occasions.
I've used stamps, markers, punches, dies, brads, ribbons, DSP, rhinestones, framelits, and some embossing powder (for the letters).  I will have lots of products out and available for you to use to personalize your frame.

Here's what you need to decide:
  • Choose 1 of the 3 frame styles shown below --- first come / first served.
  • Decide the 'theme' for your project --- a gift for a friend / a project to display in your own studio / whatever else you might decide to do with it.
  • Suggestions:  birthday, wedding, Christmas, child's room or your favorite things, such as --- when I made the frames for my studio --- I included a sea star, a sand dollar, dragonflies, music, favorite card fronts (some made by close friends), hearts, reminders from my teaching days, watches, inspirational quotes and my first Stampin' Up! stamp (the mouse).
  • Choose from my papers and stamps how you would like to decorate yours.  I'll have lots of supplies and stamps, punches and dies available for you to use while working on your framed project.
Here are the frame choices:
I'll reserve the frame you choose at the time you pay to register.
The first frame is 11 X 14" and has 8 sections you can decorate as you choose.  It can be turned any direction that you'd like to position your section openings for display.  This is the style I used in my studio.
The second frame is 8 X 18" and has 8 sections for you to decorate.  It, too, can be turned any direction that you'd like to position your section openings for display.
The third frame is 12 X 16" and has 4 sections to decorate.  It can be displayed horizontally or vertically.

Here are the frames I have in my studio -- showcasing some of my favorite things:
These 3 frames are the same size and style as the first one I showed you above.  You can see how I gave the middle one a different orientation than the other 2.  You have lots of choices how you can use them.

Your project can include artwork AND photos or just artwork --- your choice.

So... think about what you'd like to do for your project and give me a call or email.  Let's get you signed up for a super fun class.  Use this opportunity to not only have fun, but to create something to keep and enjoy for years to come.  It will be a great gift/keepsake for yourself or a special someone.
