Parcels and Petals, Stitched Rectangles, and More

Today, let's combine some favorite new and old products ... mostly new.  I have a birthday card for you.  Enjoy!  Oh ... and, by the way ... I saw the Holiday Catalog PDF yesterday ... and ... all I can say is ... WOW!!!  I absolutely can't wait.  One suite was positively love at first sight.
I had a lot of this gorgeous DSP left over after it retired and decided to use and enjoy it ... instead of hoarding it.  Combining it with fun, new products was a great way to still enjoy my new products.  This DSP is way too pretty to sit in my cabinet.  It needs to be shared.
I made a big batch of these cards for my church to send out for our July birthdays.  I hope they like them.

3 Hearts Cards / Card Three

Before I get started with my sharing today, I'd like to let you know that the mailings for our new catalog have gone out.  If you are a regular customer with me, you should start watching your mailbox.  Yay!  Happy days are on the way!
And now ... here's my third heart card for you.  Again, I've used watercolor paper and shimmer paint to achieve a special look to my design.
For this card, I used the heart frame to frame the embossed foil sheet.  I left the frame (watercolor paper) white and colored the background with the shimmer paint, reinker mixture.  I also colored the gems with it.
By the way, do you remember the large heart I used on the card (Card Two) in my previous post?  It was cut from the center of the top layer of this card.  I cut and inserted the embossed foil heart in its place.  When you make two or three cards using a variety of die cuts, it's fun to mix and match the pieces and make multiples that are not duplicates.
TIP:
This card has a little more bulk to it, with the bow and the gems.  It's best to use 'lumpy' cards like this for times when you add the card to a hand delivered gift or just give a card in person.  If you must mail it, add a layer of bubble wrap over the front of your card and take it directly to the Post Office to check what postage you need for it.
So ... hearts ... they're not just for Valentine's Day.  I hope you've enjoyed my three cards.  Now, go stamp something.

Five Days of Daisies, Day One

Are you ready for 5 days of daisies?  These will all be 4 x 4" cards.  You can mail them in a full-sized envelope, but I like to use them to brighten someone's day ... a little surprise gift for someone needing a lift, tuck them into someone's SU order, slip into someone's lunch ... you get the idea.  I love to use my cards as a way to spread joy to others.  What better way to do it than with daisies.  Here's my card #1:
Isn't it pretty? ... and oh so cheerful!
You have plenty of room to write a little note on the inside.  Be sure to come on back for Day #2.

More Daisies, Please

How about some more daisies today?  I have 2 cards to share with you.  The first is another version of the design in my previous post.  The second is what I call my 'lone daisy' card.  It's simple and elegant.  Enjoy!

After fussy cutting the tiny daisy, I placed it in the palm of my hand and used a tool (for cake baking, I think) to form a rounded shape.

A Good Day for Some Daisies ... and ... The Truth About My Green Thumb

Today seems like a good day for some daisies.  It's 30 degrees out as I write this and our new deck is covered with a thin layer of white frosty crunch.  Our Spring is having a very difficult time finding its way here, although we do have fun bits of green popping up here and there in our flower beds.  I think most of them are day lilies, along with a few iris.  I love daisies.  They always remind me of Spring or Summer and they seem to bring out the happy in everything around them.  I don't seem to do well growing them outdoors, so I put my efforts into using them in my art.  My only green thumb is from inks or paints:)
I love using ovals for the focal piece of a card.  Whatever you place in the frame instantly becomes the star.  For this one, I used 2 colors, creating a mat for my daisies.
The leafy shape (cut from our Rose Garden thinlits) curves just enough to work perfectly with an oval frame.  I also chose it because it seems to mimic the leafy background in the DSP.
There!  I think I put some happy into our day.  Keep it going and make something beautiful today.

Joey, An Artist Canvas, A Quick Tutorial and A Strange Visitor

Joey popped in to say hello today... or should I say he popped up:)  He loves to get inside baskets or boxes of any kind --- usually, as here, he prefers the smaller ones.  One look at his smile and my world is filled with sunshine.  Joey chose my Fall canvas project for me to share with you today.
Yes, I cut out a lot of leaves and flower layers.  I absolutely love the text on this one.
I have 3-4 layers of petals on my flowers.  After punching them, I sponged and shaped them.  You can use your bone folder to curve the petals up or down, whichever you prefer.
A brief recap for making an artist canvas project:
- Paint on clear gesso over the entire canvas.
- Let dry.  Add second layer, if you wish.
- Cover the canvas front with gesso (Be generous.) and carefully lay down your DSP over it.
- Make sure the entire piece of DSP is attaching to the canvas.
- Reattach corners with extra gesso, if they start to lift up.
- Keep smoothing it out as it dries.
- Sponge edges and corners, as you like.
- Once dry, go over canvas with gesso again, to seal it.
- Cut out all the pieces you will need for your project.
- Take time to move around the pieces until you get the arrangement you like.
- Start attaching your pieces, using hot glue or Liquid Tombow.  Hold in place a little while.
- Stop every once in a while and stand back to see if you're liking the balance of your design.
- When you feel like you've added enough pieces, you're finished:)
- STOP.
- STAND BACK.
- ADMIRE:)
As with all my decor projects, I loved creating this one.
Joey is hanging out with Buster here.  Lilly is lurking in the background.
Buster is trying to figure out why Joey would bother playing with a cup when there's no food in it.  Buster is a food lover.
I've had another buddy hanging around a lot this Fall.  He loves to be on the outside walls of my front porch.  This strange visitor is a praying mantis.  I haven't seen one for quite a while.  I think they look so elegant and graceful -- for a bug, anyway:)
Be sure to come back for my next post.  My Scraps and Prayers group will be sharing a decor project they made in our last class.  We had so much fun!!!
