Styles of Scrapbooking, Hybrid Projects

This is a great day to post this project because it would have been my daddy's birthday today.  He lived to be 89.  I miss him every day.
So... let's look at another fun style of scrapbooking.  This style involves a little digital action and a little touch of traditional scrapbooking.  It's a great way to add dimension to digital projects and lends itself well to frameable projects.

7.
hybrid scrapbooking
--- This combines digital and traditional scrapbooking.  You design your pages digitally, get them printed, and then add other embellishments as you desire.

Here's the project I made for one of my scrapbook pages I shared with you previously.  It's a tribute to how much I loved my daddy and spending time with him... even if I was rather camera shy.

Styles of Scrapbooking, Going Digital

I have a totally different style of scrapbooking to share with you today... different from any of the styles I've shared so far.  It involves going digital.  I much prefer to get my hands on the materials I use for scrapbooking, most often using traditional styles, but there are times that going digital can be invaluable.

6.
digital scrapbooking
--- using programs such as our MDS (My Digital Studio) to design complete layouts, including photo boxes and completing everything right on your laptop.  Even digital scrapbooking comes with options.
---- You can choose to use an already designed layout and then choose to place your photos yourself or have them popped in randomly.  It's like a digital kit.
---- You can choose to design everything yourself, choosing where to place your photos, what stamps and embellishments to use and what colors and papers you'd like to use on your pages.
--- All digital scrapbooking comes with many options for styles and sizes of layouts... even little swatch books.
--- You can also use a digital kit to design and have printed your very own hardback journal.  These are great for keeping notes, sketches and ideas for all kinds of scrapbooking.
--- You don't have to have the space (and expense) of keeping a 'stash' of materials on hand for your scrapbooking.  All you need is your computer and a digital program.

I'll share more of these projects later.  For now, let's take a look at a series of pages, all made with our My Digital Studio program.

First, a page I made as a tribute to our late friend, Ed, who played the organ at our daughter's wedding.
... a page I made of my dad (and me) when I was about 3 years old...
... a page I made, just for fun, after our Olive Jane's third birthday party...
I must share a series of pages created by my daughter, Jenn.  She does a fabulous job with digital scrapbooking.  Click here to see her blog.

My daughter Jenn's tribute to our late friend, Ed.
Digital scrapbooking is completely different from traditional scrapbooking but the results can be equally pleasing.  One big advantage is that, once you've completed your pages, you can have your pages and your photos printed all at one time!

Styles of Scrapbooking, Using Journals

Ready for another popular style of scrapbooking?  Let's jump right in then.  Today, we'll look at using journals.  If you need a review of the styles of scrapbooking that I've covered so far, just keep scrolling until you've covered it all.  Leave me a comment if you have a question about any of it.

4.
using journals
--- such as our Epic Day This And That Journal, with coordinating designer stickers, Washi Tape and Rotary stamp.  These are great for taking with you on a trip and adding journaling and mementos as you travel.  This is a modern, more casual style of scrapbooking.  You can also use journals as a way to jot down and keep track of journaling ideas and/or layout sketches for future scrapbooking projects.

Here are a bunch of samples of kinds of journals that I've made and used.  They do not have to be just for scrapbooking, as they are handy for using in many ways.
I love making these little journals.  They are handy just for jotting down anything you need to remember.  Stampin' Up! is coming out with a new, larger version of this one.  I can't wait to plan how I want to decorate it and use it.

This journal helps me keep track of fun things the kids say and do... so I can use them later in my scrapbooking.
This journals helps organize Christmas preparations and record memories.
I made these 2 journals with My Digital Studio and had them printed for me.  I use them for planning and keeping track of ideas for classes and/or projects, including my scrapbooking.
This one is a prayer journal.  We each made one in my Scraps and Prayers class.  It has a coordinating bookmark.
These next 5 journals are technique journals that I've made and find very useful.  They make for handy and useful references when planning new projects, including scrapbooking.

Whew!  That's a lot to cover in one post.  You certainly should have gotten an idea or two to inspire you from all of these.  Now go try your own!  Have fun!

Some Sunday Cuteness

Just a quick post today to share some cuteness.  First up, some cute photos of my sweet Olive Jane.  She is a true product of her environment, including all the love and influences from her family.  She loves to read, loves playing with her stuffed bunny, loves trying fun foods, and is really getting to be quite a helper in the kitchen.

This first photo is very special to me, not only because of my sweet Olive Jane but also because this is a chair that was my father's and I passed it on to Jen, my daughter-in-law.  I was so touched when she chose to make it a special part of Olive Jane's nursery.

Her daddy made this delicious treat for her.
She even loves cooking with friends.  I got her her own cutting board and big cutting knife for Christmas.  The knife is a plastic knife for cutting lettuce.  I think she'll be great with it, with supervision, of course.

Last Easter:

Ever since my youngest grandson has been old enough to eat pretty much whatever he wants, he has never shied away from sour tastes.  Whenever we go out to eat, if I get a lime with my Diet Coke (very good, by the way!) or a lemon with my iced tea, Aaron begs for these sour goodies.  He sucks out all the juice, makes an incredible face, and asks for more.  My daughter, Jenn created this MDS page of Aaron and his pickle eating experience.
Isn't this a great MDS page:  my daughter and son-in-law, created using My Digital Studio, by my daughter.
And last, but not least, some winter memories.

Aaron and Olive Jane getting a ride in Nanna's big chair.  They love it.
Trips to see Nanna are so exhausting:)
Peek-a-boo!  Playing hide and seek with Nanna.
Have a great day, enjoy the Super Bowl, and have a blessed week.

MDS Journals

I love books and I love journals.  A new journal is an opportunity just waiting...
waiting to be filled with thoughts, notes, sketches, ideas, plans, dreams, stories, poetry, doodling...

Today, I'm sharing some journals that I made using My Digital Studio.  They were fun and very easy to design.  Now, to get them ordered and start filling them with all kinds of important ideas.

So, what do you think?  What should I write in my journals?  Hmmmmmm...

May is National Scrapbooking Month!

May is National Scrapbooking Month --- a great time to get those photos into beautiful layouts, to show off your favorite people, pets, vacations... and I have some great fun in store for you.

Here's a page I created as a tribute to scrapbooking, using My Digital Studio.  This is one of my favorite photos --- me, with my daddy.

I realized that I made a major goof with my May schedule.
I scheduled my Scrap Fest Extravaganza for Memorial Day weekend --- not a good idea!
So...
I put my mind to coming up with a way to work it into my schedule... and... I think I've come up with something even better.
First of all, I'll be having a super big day of scrapbooking --- all on May 19.

Saturday Morning Brunch Bunch ---
  • 1 layout
  • 1 paper bag scrapbook
  • 1 mini album
  • Fee ($22.) includes all materials except your adhesive.

Scrap Fest Extravaganza ---
  • Make 2 layouts for $10.00
  • Make additional layouts for $5.00 each.
  • Fee ($10. minimum) includes all materials except your adhesive.

Do it all for just $30.00!!!
  • 3 layouts
  • 1 paper bag scrapbook
  • 1 mini album
  • the opportunity to make additional layouts for just $5.00 each
You must pay to register at least 2 days prior to the class.

Because everyone works at a slightly different pace and some will want to stay to make more layouts, I'm setting the time for 9:30-5:00.  You will probably finish before that and may leave whenever you're finished.
Because of the overlapping work times and activities, light snacks will be provided.
Come join us.  We're going to have a fabulous day of scrapbooking!
