Leftovers Layout

As soon as I saw the leftovers from this kit, I already started designing a scrapbook layout (in my head) to create with some of the pieces.  I had extra DSP squares and I had extra circles (already stitched together!) from the banner kit.  I added some extra punched pieces (made from scraps) that I will later use for stamping and/or journaling.  I've left this one simple, until I zoom in on which photos I'll put on it.

Here's my layout:
Design Talk:
I kind of worked backwards on this one.  I usually start with photos, plan my colors, work out my design and then let the creative process carry me along.  This time, I started with the pieces and worked without any photos in mind.

The reason:
Sometimes, you 'see' a design in your head for a layout, much like a card design inspiration, and you just have to make it.

My plan:
The bright colors will easily go with lots of photos... OR... I'll print my photos in black and white and they will totally go with the design.  Fun!

My advice:
When you 'see' a design for a layout in your head, go ahead and make it --- so you won't lose the idea.  You can always add to it and/or tweak it later.  You don't want to lose the idea.
OR ---
If you started that inspiration journal I keep advising you to do, you can sketch your design inspiration into your journal and keep your idea there until you're ready to sit down and create it.
With bright, bold colors and fun designs like these, I'll probably use this layout for something like kids playing in the park... or maybe a party theme.  I just know it will be fun.

Kaleidoscope Layout

In my last post, I shared more treat holders that I created, using our Kaleidoscope DSP.  Today, I'll share a layout I created using these bright and colorful designer papers.  I'm glad I finished this 'photo shoot' long before our snowstorm hit.
Right now, my front porch is covered with part of the snow that has blanketed our area.  It was snowing hard enough to blow right up onto the porch.  I may be taking photos indoors for a while.   It's easier to take indoor shots (no wind or weather to fight against) but more difficult for me to get the lighting I want.  This is something I keep working on from time to time, trying to get a good indoor setup for photo shoots of my projects.

Are you wondering where I got some of the rectangular and half-circle pieces?  They are left over from my Celebration Add-On Kit.  It's the one with Bermuda Bay.  The little punched triangles are made using our new Triangle Punch.  I love it!  There are also some very cute and very tiny little punched banner pieces.  These were created using our new Banner Punch, free with qualifying Sale-A-Bration orders!  If it's not a must-have on your wish list, it should be.
I hope you are keeping well and keeping warm.  Our snow is beautiful... but... really... I'm ready for Spring.  I plan to hole up in my studio and spend my day creating.  Have a blessed day and thanks for stopping by my little blogspot.

Have a great day and go stamp something beautiful.

Create Inspiration

Want some great inspiration?  How about my new 'Create' banner?  I loved making this.  It was fun, easy and fairly quick, for such a large project.  It's hanging in my studio and will hopefully inspire anyone who sees it.  The nice thing about doing this kind of project is that it all starts from a kit.  You have all your materials organized before you even begin to work on it!  Whatever else you'd like to add is limited only by your imagination.  You may even find that you become more creative because the initial work and organizing of supplies is already done for you:)  I think my new banner works to spruce up my studio --- big time!
I wanted you to see the entire banner, so I had to step back a bit to get in all the parts and pieces.

Color story:
--Bermuda Bay
--Crushed Curry
--Crumb Cake
--Basic Gray

Here are some close-ups of each part.
Each letter comes as a plain white (blank slate) in the kit.  I stamped with Crushed Curry for a random background.  Then, I stamped the 'grid marks' in VersaMark ink, and embossed it with gold EP.  In real life, it has a nice shimmer to it.
The add-on kit comes with 12 x 12" tissue paper sheets to cut into streamers.  You can leave them plain white or add color by spritzing them with a reinker/alcohol mixture.  I spritzed mine with Crushed Curry and Bermuda Bay.
The add-on kit also comes with the little circles streamer, all stitched together.  I used those to stretch along the top of my banner.  The little circles come in all the colors in our color story + gold and silver.

I love the cord that comes with the banner.  I used it to hang all the individual banner pieces.
You also get 12 sheets of 6 X  6" double-sided DSP with the add-on kit.  I cut those into scallop circles with my Big Shot and used them as accent layers behind the letters.
I still had lots of extra pieces in the add-on kit, so I used some of them for a scrapbook layout.  Come back soon and I'll share it with you.
The doilies layered at each end of the banner were also spritzed to add more color.  I used some of the 6 X 6" DSP pieces to make the flowers for each end of the banner, using the spiral flower die.  I sandwiched the streamers between 2 circles that came with the banner kit.
So, that's my banner.  Tell me what you think!  Be sure to stop by soon to see more class sneak peeks and lots of scrapbooking and card making inspiration.
