A Cute Little Magnolia Banner

I have a banner to share with you today.  I thought it would be fun to showcase our beautiful Magnolia Lane DSP by making a cute little banner.  It features a couple of little magnolia blossoms, as well.  I intentionally kept it simple because I wanted to let the paper be the star of the show.

'Merry Banner'

Here's another fun banner project of mine.  This was super fun to create and I have it hanging it my studio.
I 'painted' a background onto the watercolor paper piece (after die cutting it) using Cherry Cobbler reinker.
I die cut and used 2 sizes of stars throughout the banner.   I used a nice assortment of ribbons at each end of the banner, as well as a little bow at the top of each piece.
I die cut letters from black CS to go behind my embossed letters.  The Cherry Cobbler CS letters were embossed (3 X each) with clear EP.  Click here to learn more about embossed letters.
I used gold embossing to add some stamped texture behind my letters.  Before attaching the letters, I spritzed each piece with my shimmer mixture.  Once the letters were attached, I went back and added Wink of Stella to each embossed letter.  I'd say I used quite a LOT of ways to add sparkle!!!
My banner started out like the one below, but I didn't think the embossed stars on each end showed up enough, so I went back and die cut stars to go over them.  Love it!
This is even prettier in real life, but I think you get the idea.

It's All About The Color ... And Ribbons, Ribbons, Ribbons

For me, working with most any art project begins with choosing and playing with my color story for the project.  I LOVE playing with color.  After I've chosen the color story, I begin working on my design, choosing stamps, choosing color mediums --- watercoloring, embossing, using markers...
The possibilities are pretty much endless.  Yes, I often change out some of my plans as I get into the creative process, but that's part of the fun.  The colors and the design begin to drive the project.  As I go along, I decide what embellishments I may need to use to finish out my project.  For today's project, it's ribbons, ribbons, ribbons.
Today, I have a happy little banner that I made to hang in my studio.  I didn't have to do much planning with the colors because I wanted to use ALL the new In Colors.
My banner hangs where I do all my stamping and paper crafting, so it's a constant reminder of how much I love being an artist.
As new stampin' goodies arrive now, I am constantly inspired by what I chose from the new catalog.  It's a great time for creating!

Spring Banner Project

Once in a while, I depart from scrapbooking and card making and design a fun banner.  Spring is a great time for a project like this.  Right now, I'm longing for Spring, so it was a no brainer to come up with this project idea.  Out came my favorite framelits again!
This may be a class project idea for down the road.  I love how it turned out.
I added lots of 'blooms' to the banner and added a double layer of my banner shape, with the darker DSP showing just at the bottom of each piece.  I used both current and retired ribbons.  This is now hanging in my studio.

My Snowflake Banner ... A Fun Project

Instead of a card or scrapbook project, I have a banner project for you today.  It's fun to make and pretty quick and easy... so I kept making another and another and ...
I used 2 alternating designs for my banner pieces.  Here is the first design.
Here is the second design I used.  I embossed the wooden Snowflake Elements with Gold EP.
It's pretty difficult to get a shot of the banner in place, because it's pretty long.  I think I ended up with 26 pieces altogether.
The banner runs the entire width of my studio.
Click here to see a fun video from Stampin' Up! on alternate ways to use our Spider Web doilies.
Above and below:  images from the video...
So... now it's time for you to order up some of these fun doilies and get to work.  Enjoy!

Blessed Layout

I need to take a step away from my Project Life posts today to share a traditional scrapbooking layout with you that we'll be making at my next Scraps and Prayers class.  It has a Fall/Vintage look to it, which I love and you know how much I love this banner look on a page.
I started with a Crumb Cake base, added a layer of DSP and then added distressing and stamping with Soft Suede ink before attaching it.  The DSP is a 10" square.
The banner is made with our burlap ribbon and die cut letters.  I actually sewed the linen thread through the banner, leaving long ends of thread at each end of the banner to tie a bow.

I sewed the 2 vintage buttons onto the top ribbon before attaching it to my page.  You could place 1-3 smaller photos on the left page and perhaps try 1 large photo on the right page.  Photos printed in sepia tones would look gorgeous on pages like these.
If you haven't tried this style of look in scrapbooking yet, I hope you'll give it a try.

Monster Hugs

These cute little monsters came out in time for Valentine's Day but I think you could use them any time, really.  Who doesn't love a hug?  I've made a variety of projects using the boy and girl monsters.  Check them out and let me know which one you liked the best.

First, I made a banner, because they reminded me of the paper doll chains I made when I was a little girl.

Then, I made individual treats, including a treat box (inspired by Julie Davison):
I attached one to a teepee card:

... and then I made a lot of cards:
I used a different embossing folder for the background on each card.

Be sure to let me know which one you liked the best.

Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the blog world.
Have a great day and come back soon for more design inspiration.

Now, go stamp something beautiful.
