Today, we arrive at Part 6, the final part in my little series on Playing with DSP. Today's post features our Core'dinations CS. Why am I including this in a class and a series on Playing with DSP? It's because, once you emboss and sand it to reveal the design, it kind of becomes your own Designer Paper. This is a wonderful product that can be used for cards and/or scrapbooking and I've shown it to you in previous posts in these types of projects, so I wanted to show you how it can be used for other projects, as well.
I will have to let out a secret, too: No matter how hard you try to not 'accumulate' too big a stash, something always pops up that you forgot you ever had. In this case, it was a great surprise --- Retired Stampin' Up! checkbook covers --- brand new / still in the wrappers! Now, why would I want to use Core'dinations CS to make checkbook covers? The answer is --- because you can emboss it and then sand it to bring out the design. Your embossed design directs the amount of sanding you may choose to do on it. I'll share 3 examples today.
1. Sand just a tiny bit:
2. Sand a little bit more:
3. Sand a lot:
I may or may not go back and add stamped images and/or a touch of ribbon. For now, I just wanted to enjoy the beautiful designs.
We'll be making cards and projects featured in this series, at my April 7 Monday Night Stampers class.

...and here are more examples, along with more info on our Core'dinations CS. (Click here to see.)
So, with this series ending, what will I be up to next?
I have new goodies to share with you on organizing your craft spaces ...and I have Spring/Easter decor to share... and, further down the road, I'll be sharing tons of ways to use ribbons in your projects. Be sure to come back soon and come back often, so you don't miss a thing!
Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the blog world.
Have a great day and come back soon for more design inspiration.
This blog is full of creative inspiration for cards, home decor, gifts, scrapbooking and more. Let's create something beautiful today.

The Other Half of My New Card Display
In my previous post, I showed you my new card display, but that was only half of the display. Here is the other half, on the other end of my 'clothesline' display. There are all the projects we'll be making at my April 7 Monday Night Stampers class. It's going to be all about playing with Designer Series Papers (DSP). There's one additional project that I haven't shown and that's a check book cover. It's a little more difficult to fit into a display with cards and projects. Let's take a look at what I do have on display:
We'll be playing with designs and techniques as we work with DSP, vellum and Core'dinations CS. We'll make a cute little treat bag, a check book cover (not shown) and 4 great cards. The cards include using vellum, a folded frame design and a sunburst design. I hope you can join us on April 7 for some great stamping fun. The class is $18. or free w/$35. or more order. I'll share more details and some close-ups of these cards in a future post.

Core'dinations CS and a Little Fun
Here's a little fun for you to enjoy today. (Click the link to see it.) I love it!!!
And now, let's get to the core of things --- with our Core'dinations CS, that is.
We now have Core'dinations CS in several colors:
Early Espresso
Cherry Cobbler
Gumball Green
Primrose Petals
Pool Party
Real Red
You can use it 'as is' to give extra texture to your project or you can really bump it up and use it with embossing folders. Our CS has a solid core, so if you tear or emboss it, you get the same solid color. The Core'dinations CS has a lighter core, so if you emboss and then lightly sand the top surface of the image, you get a highlighted, lighter color that really shows off your embossing design. Here's a card I made using the Primrose Petals.
Here are all the colors:
... and a close-up of the dyed roses:
If you missed my posts about dyeing, you can check here and here.

How to go About Dyeing!
Today, as I did in my workshop last Saturday, I'll teach you how to go about dyeing -- with reinkers and roses, that is:) I tried to do this in the easiest way possible and with the least mess. I think this works great.
How to go About Dyeing:
Optional:
I experimented with several colors, to see how I liked them. The flowers do look a little lighter after they dry.
Here's the card we made, using some of our flowers. The embossed layer is actually Primrose Petals, even though our flowers are dyed with Regal Rose reinker. As with ribbons, you can use coordinating color tones together and it will look great.
Which color do you like the best?
In my next couple of posts I'll be sharing more about dyeing, so come back soon and check it out. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think!
How to go About Dyeing:
- Lay out several layers of paper towels.
- Cut a strip of our Flower Trim the length you'd like to dye. (p.5, Spring Catalog)
- Take a Stampin' Spritzer and fill it 2/3's full of water. (p. 179, large catalog)
- Add 3-6 drops of the reinker color of your choice. (The more reinker, the deeper the color.)
- Add a little more water, if needed, leaving room to replace your top.
- Shake, to mix the color into the water.
- Gently spritz the Flower Trim, as desired. The more you spritz, the greater the saturation.
- Let dry.
- Add the Flower Trim to your project by attaching with Liquid Tombow.
Optional:
- Add a spritzing of alcohol / shimmer paint, if desired, for a little sparkle.
- You can add a little more depth of color by highlighting the top edges of each flower with a marker. (Mine shown do NOT have this detail. I'm just highlighting examples of several color choices.)
- You can also use sponge daubers to add color to the flowers. The spritzing gives a quicker and better coverage, I think. Try both ways and see what you like the best.

Core'dinations
I love our new Core'dinations Card Stock! I hope, if you haven't tried it yet, I hope that you'll check it out soon. Here are some cards that I've made using it.
This one is a quilt card, using Comfort Cafe DSP. I used the Lacy Brocade embossing folder (with Early Espresso Core'dinations CS) and then lightly sanded over the raised embossed areas. The text is stamped directly onto our new 7/8" cotton ribbon. I added an antique brad to the center. This is one of the projects we made at my last Team Meeting.
I actually used the same embossing folder for this card, with our Cherry Cobbler Core'dinations CS. After the card was finished, I spritzed it with my Frost White Shimmer Paint/alcohol mixture so it has a really nice sparkle.
For this card, I embossed Gumball Green Core'dinations CS and attached it to a Cherry Cobbler card base. I used our new snowflake die for a snowflake to top off the medallion. I used the Holiday Frame embossing folder and then lightly sanded the raised image.
Here are a couple more cards using the Early Espresso Core'dinations CS. Remember these? I hope you'll give this new CS a try. I think there will be endless possibilities for using it. Have a great day!
